Back to the Roots - Zakynthos Island Tour

The tour starts at your resort, where our minibus will pick you up as arranged. Our first stop is the charming village of Tragaki. Characterized by whitewashed stone walls and sweeping countryside views, Tragaki offers a glimpse into the laid-back Greek way of life. Here, we’ll stroll through the village streets and have the chance to meet some of the locals at the island’s oldest supermarket / coffeehouse. This quaint pre-earthquake building is a favorite spot for photographers in our group.

Back on board the Nefis Travel minibus, we continue our journey down the valley, passing through beautiful vineyards before heading deeper into the Zakynthos mountains, enjoying majestic views of the Ionian Sea along the way. We will stop at one of the island’s hidden gems -a village with its own olive mill museum- where you can relax with a traditional Greek coffee while friendly locals pass by, eager to chat. No one can resist a visit to Grandpa Nionios' enchanting little shop, where we can experience true Zakynthian hospitality!

After soaking in the authentic Zakynthian atmosphere, we continue our unique Zakynthos tour to a charming traditional Greek roadside market. Here, you’ll enjoy free Greek snacks and wine tasting: a slice of village bread dipped in olive oil, served with olives, oregano, and Lado-tiri, a local Zakynthian cheese. You’ll also have the opportunity to sample and purchase local products, including honey, oils, sweets, handmade carpets, and tapestries.

Moving on from the village market, we head towards the spectacular viewpoint overlooking Shipwreck Cove—a highlight for photographers and one of the most famous sights in Greece. Everyone is enchanted by the stunning shades of blue in the waters surrounding Smugglers Bay. Here, Jackie will share the fascinating story of the Zakynthos Shipwreck.

The "Back to the Roots" Zakynthos Island Tour also includes a visit to the beautiful and historic Monastery of Saint Georgios. We’ll meet the hospitable monks and receive a guided tour of their workshop, where they create icons using traditional craftsmanship. This peaceful and spiritual place is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Our next destination is Kampi. Located high along Zakynthos’ white cliffs, Kampi offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic sea views in all of Greece. Here, you can enjoy a delicious homemade Zakynthian meal while being serenaded by guitarist Nico and your guide, Jackie! The uplifting sounds of traditional Zakynthian folk songs are always a highlight of this tour. After a fantastic meal and beautiful music, we’ll leave Kampi around siesta time—a great opportunity to sit back and relax on the minibus as we continue our Zakynthos excursion.

As we journey towards the southern part of the island, we visit the modern Aristeon Olive Factory, whose name means excellence in Greek. This Ecological Olive Press certainly lives up to its reputation, featuring an olive oil museum, a tasting section, and handmade olive soap. Here, one of the factory’s olive oil experts will take us on a tour, revealing the history and craftsmanship behind olive oil production on the island.
