Very good news for the famous Shipwreck bay
The Municipality of Zakynthos, in particular the Tourism Committee, takes measures to protect the famous Shipwreck bay, so that the bathers who are often responsible for damages and damage to the ship “Panagiotis” are not accessible.
According to statements in the “DAY” of the Vice President of the Municipality’s Tourism Committee, Antonis Nikoloudakis, the municipality after Easter and shortly before the beginning of the tourist season starts the interventions for the fencing of the ship so that there is no access by the bathers who often are responsible for the damage.
“For some time now, we have decided through the Tourism Committee to fence and place a mark on the beach, so that for the first time this year we can manage to protect this construction from mistreatment and vandalism but also protect the safety of visitors who may be overtaking and approaching this ship. Many times we have had cases that some were on board and that was a great risk to their own safety. Now there will be a discreet fencing with low stakes so you can get close to the wreck, be happy, take photos, but no longer have the visitor physically in touch with the shipbuilding” says Mr. Nikoloudakis.
At the same time there will be a sign, next to the wreck, which will give some simple and clear instructions to the visitors to enjoy it but not to have contact. There will also be some warning signs that have been requested by the Port Authority, near the cliff, at some points where there is a drop of rocks that will warn you not to approach anyone in order to avoid the risk of an accident.
It is also planned to hire a guard who will be responsible for monitoring the beach during the bathers’ hours with Mr. Nikoloudakis adding “At the same time, we are trying to complete the effort to hire beach security staff. We hope that the services of the Municipality will act quite efficiently and have at least one person to guard the beach for the summer. In the near future, we will continue to study other actions for both the prophylaxis and the maintenance of the shipwreck”.
The above-mentioned spending will be covered by a private sponsor and is “Monster Energy Yamaha” who made the great advertising activity last October in the wreck with the filming of the World Champion MXGP, Romain Febvre. In return, the municipality asked for an amount to be spent, just for the guarding and fencing of the shipwreck. Already the supplier has been informed and is expected to receive the equipment. Hope that all this action is completed shortly after Easter (mid-April) and just before the start of the 2018 season.
