Our Commitment to Sea Turtle Conservation
For us at Nefis Travel, eco-conservation is not a side project. It is part of who we are, and it has been since the very beginning. For more than 20 summers, we have been working hand in hand with ARCHELON, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, in Laganas Bay, one of the most important nesting areas for the endangered loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta-Caretta) in the entire Mediterranean. This collaboration is built on trust, respect, and a shared belief: tourism can protect nature, when it is done responsibly.
Education That Creates Awareness
Throughout every summer season, ARCHELON volunteers join our Eco-friendly Turtle Tours. On board, they don’t just give presentations; they connect with our guests on a personal level.

Every trip becomes more than a boat excursion.It becomes a moment of understanding and often, a turning point.Over the years, thousands of Nefis guests have taken part in our eco-friendly turtle tours and left Zakynthos with not only beautiful memories, but also valuable knowledge that they carry home and share with others.
Fundraising That Makes a Real Difference
Education inspires action, and our guests have proven this time and again. Thanks to on-board fundraising, turtle adoptions, and souvenir support, nearly €20,000 was raised during the 2025 summer season alone in support of sea turtle conservation. These funds directly help ARCHELON continue its vital work: monitoring nests, protecting beaches, researching turtle populations, and rehabilitating injured turtles. This result is a powerful example of what responsible tourism can achieve when guests, guides, and conservationists stand together.
One Stone in the Wall
The nests are increasing. The turtles are returning. And the wall protecting them grows stronger, stone by stone. ARCHELON, our Nefis Travel team, and every single guest who listened, learned, donated, or simply respected the rules at sea ,we are all part of that wall. From essays written by young visitors, to school projects inspired by our tours, to lifelong awareness sparked during a single boat trip, the impact reaches far beyond the bay.

We are deeply proud of this long-standing collaboration and grateful to everyone who has walked this path with us. Protecting sea turtles is not a one-season effort, it is a commitment to the future. A Few Words From ARCHELON, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece
ARCHELON is proud to partner with Nefis Travel, who are committed to turtle friendly practices and strictly adhere to the observation of regulations during their boat trips in Laganas Bay, Zakynthos. Throughout the summer season, ARCHELON volunteers join Nefis Travel’s trips to provide engaging onboard presentations and personal interaction with guests. During these sessions, visitors learn essential information about the biology of the Loggerhead sea turtle, the significance of Laganas Bay as a protected habitat, and the responsible behaviours needed to safeguard both the turtles at sea and the nesting beaches on Zakynthos.

ARCHELON is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study and protection of sea turtles and their habitats in Greece. ARCHELON researchers and volunteers have been systematically recording the nesting activity of the loggerhead sea turtles in Zakynthos every summer since 1983. Its activities combine scientific research with volunteer work and aim to activate society for a better and sustainable planet through education and information dissemination.
